NEWSLETTER
#1 - April 2010
I am
pleased to send you this first Agro 2010 e-newsletter to keep you
informed of the latest developments in the organisation of this
major event.
The
2010 ESA congress is to be held in Montpellier and this occasion
marks the ESA’s return to France, twenty years after its creation
in Paris. As Montpellier has one of the largest concentrations in
the world of scientific staffs and students in agricultural and
environmental sciences, the XIth ESA congress offers the opportunity
to organise an International Scientific Week around Agronomy: AGRO2010.
I
am confident that Agro2010, with your participation, will be an
important milestone in the return of Agronomy as a major component
on the international research agenda.
I
look forward to welcoming you in Montpellier

Jacques
Wery
President of AGRO2010 Scientific Committee
President of ESA
Call
for papers
We have received 483 two-page papers
from 409 authors (53 countries represented), which is beyond our
expectations and augurs well for a successful congress. Replies
to authors will be completed before the end of May. Obviously all
requests for oral presentations will be satisfied but we are examining
the opportunity of adding some parallel sessions and some workshops
to the programme. The Scientific Committee and session chairs will
pay special attention to making all posters visible (guided poster
tours, advertising of specific posters, proposals for a special
issue, etc…).
Programme
The detailed programme is regularly
updated on the website. Check back regularly for sessions, key notes
and, soon, oral presentations.
We can already announce that a new
workshop for an international programme on Environmental Change
and Sustainable Agricultural Systems has been added on September
3rd. For practical
reasons the number of participants will be limited to 50. Some of
them will be invited on the basis of the 2-page paper they have
submitted. Details of the workshop programme will be available in
June.
For further information you can contact John
Ingram or Peter Gregory.
International
courses and grants
We
have received 65 applications for grants and 40 for international
courses. The selection results will be released soon.
Registration
Secured online registration is now
open, and some of you have already registered. ESA members are eligible
for a reduced fare for the congress.
Do not miss the earlybird deadline on June
15th
Social
programme
As the end of August is a perfect time to spend holidays in the
South of France, we offered also an accompanying
person programme and post-tours
to enjoy the culture and gastronomy of the Languedoc-Roussillon
region.
Exhibition
We have still some spaces available in the exhibition...Do
not miss this valuable opportunity to communicate on your institute
or company !
Information of interest from...Australia......

- ESA is involved in organising of the 5th
World Congress of Conservation Agriculture incorporating the
3rd Farming Systems Design Conference, 26-29 September 2011 in
Brisbane (Australia). The call for expressions of interest is
now open on the website. The co-location of WCCA and FSD will
provide an excellent opportunity to explore the application of
conservation agriculture practices and principles in a farming
systems - household context. A key objective of the meeting will
be to discuss achievements and opportunities for developing more
productive, economic, and sustainable farming systems that meet
the challenges of an expanding population, global change, and
environmental degradation, in large scale and smallholder agriculture.
